Li Yin ponders and says:
In facing all these things, Jesus was troubled, Jesus was fearful. But what did Jesus do? He remembered His purpose, He remembered that God has it all planned out. And He took ultimate pleasure in God's Name being glorified. In His surrender alone, God's Name was glorified. For myself, God reminded me of the need to surrender my family, my friends, my relationships, all to Him. And to die to my selfish motivations, comfort zones, pride and irresponsibility. Glorify God's Name in my surrender. This was what I wrote in my journal: Lord, I want to live my life for You today, lead me, guide me as to what You want me to do, and help me to do them. God, prune me, shake my foundations, build them up strong in You. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Lord, You intended me to pass Your tests. So Lord, I will trust in You, no matter what comes my way. Make me more and more like You. Stretch me etc etc…
Shuning ponders and says:
Unless we give up the parts of our lives that are not pleasing to God, we will not bear fruit. Give our lives to God fully. Jesus died so that we could have eternal life.
Michelle ponders and says:
This passage reminded me of the life I’m leading. Am I leading a fully surrendered life or are there still areas which I’ve not surrendered fully to God? Also, am I giving my full 100% in serving and following God? Jesus knew He is going to die in a painful way, yet He surrendered everything to God. He also knew that His death would draw ppl to Him and He died willingly. He gave His all to us. What about me? Did I give my all to Him?
Prayer: As I continue to walk in Christ, I would give as much as possible I can in serving the Kingdom. Also pray that God will show more and be clear in areas that I need to surrender and how I can serve Him more.
Sharon ponders and says:
Reading through the verses reminds me of how I’m living my life now. Am I prioritising on things that bring about eternity? Or am I just going about life a worldly being and I think most of us would make this prayer in v27, once in a while praying to ask God to deliver us when we feel like there’s no end to troubles but indeed we are created and placed in wherever we are for a reason too! Through testings to be more like Jesus and live a life that causes others to be “interested” in us! Take heart! Jesus is on His way…in time to come there will be breakthroughs as the prince (Satan) will be casted out!!
Elaine ponders and says:
We can be in the world but not of the world. Unless we die to ourselves and give this life to God, we have eternal life. It means we’re no longer leading our life but rather allowing God to be the driver of our life. The reason for our existence is to glorify Him.
Prayer: To be more Christ-like, surrendering my rights and follow God’s way
Jesline ponders and says:
This passage reminds me of the degree we’re willing to die to ourselves ie. Choosing the things of God and the ways of God over ours especially when it is hard to surrender. V26’whoever serves me must follow me and where I am my servant will also be’ when we choose to serve and follow God, it’s like doing what Jesus does-going to the cross and die. Sometimes it might be tough to do so and we might struggle, but it will bring about great power and blessings ie. The death of Jesus has the power to draw all men to Him and many will escape eternal death through the death of Jesus which brings the blessing of a new life. Similarly for us, the power and blessing God can pour into a life that chooses to die to himself.
Prayer: To allow God to reign in my life-family, school, church and for myself to follow Jesus in His footstep in obedience so that His power and blessing can flow in my life.
Li Yi ponders and says:
Jesus knew that He is going to die. Instead of asking God to save Him, He died on the cross to fulfil what is being written in the bible. He did it because He knew the great purpose behind it-to save and redeem ppl. And many will come to witness the power of God when He rise up from dead and will follow Him. As we’re saved and followers of Jesus, are we still denying ourselves to the cross? Any areas in my life that I’ve yet to surrender fully to God?
Prayer: Whatever plans and thoughts that I have, to be in line with God. For strength as i study for my exams this week!!
Hanyun ponders and says:
Being more like Jesus, being Christ-like, what does it mean? In this passage, we learn to model ourselves after Jesus, in picking up the cross, losing our (worldly) lives to follow God. Parallel verses from the other books:
[Matthew 16:24-25] "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 2For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it"
[Luke 9:23-25]"Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?"
Personally, i find it a daily struggle to "pick up the cross" every single day, when sometimes i would tell God to let me rest for a day etc. HAHAHA. But I pray, and as a constant reminder, that i would not want to take the comfortable/easy way out, but hold this mission close to my heart and desire to seek after the glory of God. Also to recognise and be obedient to which part of ALL of heart, mind and soul that i have not handed to God yet.
