And we start talking...

Think about Him..
Posted on Monday, March 30, 2009

How many times have I really forget that God, U have brought me this far.. Not my own strength or capabilities but You.
God, U are the One who call me out to walk on water for U, to overcome the storms in life together with U. U are the One who saved me from the darkness I used to be trapped in.. my weaknesses, sins, struggles in life that I can never have broken through without U.
Your truth has definitely set me free.. I really want to claim it. I feel so weak many a times. You are indeed my freedom.
Some of my thoughts as I pray today and think through certain things. I pray that God has been evident in your tot life and prayer life today as well. Lets remain in His presence for His presence brings about power in our life just by walking with Him. This song is a great reminder once again.

running in this race together,
Carrie

HERE IN MY LIFE - HILLSONG

I have never walked on water
Felt the waves beneath my feet
But at Your word Lord
I'll receive Your faith to walk on oceans deep
And I remember how You found me
In that very same place
All my failings surely would have drowned me
Still You made a way

You are my freedom
Jesus You're the reason
I'm kneeling again at Your throne
Where would I be without You
Here in my life
Here in my life

You have said that all the heavens
Sing for joy at one who finds the
Way to freedom truth of Jesus
Brought from death into this life
And I remember how You saw me
Through the eyes of Your grace
And though the price was Your beloved for me
Still You made a way

In Christ Alone
Posted on Thursday, March 26, 2009

In Christ alone will I glory
Though I could pride myself in battles won
For I've been blessed beyond measure
And by His strength alone I'll overcome
Oh, I could stop and count successes like diamonds in my hands
But those trophies could not equal to the grace by which I stand

In Christ alone
I place my trust
And find my glory in the power of the cross
In every victory
Let it be said of me
My source of strength
My source of hope
Is Christ alone

In Christ alone do I glory
For only by His grace I am redeemed
For only His tender mercy
Could reach beyond my weakness to my need
And now I seek no greater honor in just to know Him more
And to count my gains but losses to the glory of my Lord

In Christ alone
I place my trust
And find my glory in the power of the cross
In every victory
Let it be said of me
My source of strength
My source of hope
Is Christ alone

A song that i have been holding onto recently. Promises of His presence and power of His cross shall be my strength and victory. I want to seek to know Him more and more, because I can't boast of my successes of any other thing, than saying that I know the Lord, my God.

Jesus, Take The Wheel
by Carrie Underwood

She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati on a snow white Christmas Eve
Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy with the baby in the backseat
Fifty miles to go and she was running low on faith and gasoline
It'd been a long hard year
She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
She was going way to fast
Before she knew it she was spinning on a thin black sheet of glass
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was so scared
She threw her hands up in the air

Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel

It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder and the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat sleeping like a rock
And for the first time in a long time she bowed her head to pray
She said I'm sorry for the way I've been living my life
I know I've got to change
So from now on tonight

Words can have a huge effect on our everday lives.
Depending on how we use them, they can either build or tear down.
This Palm Sunday, Pastor Wayne Cordeiro gives us three ways that we can encourage through our words.

O Lord search us..
Posted on Friday, March 13, 2009

Take an inside look
For reading & meditation: 1 Corinthians 11:27-34
"A man ought to examine himself '" (v.28)

Most of us don't mind working our way through our problems, but the moment we get relief, we want to stop right there. We do not go on to face up to what caused us to come to the wrong conclusions in the first place.
This is why we keep going through the same problems over and over again - we fail to take an inside look.

Lets continue to examine ourselves, inside out, as we grow in God. As we MnM together, lets store up e WOG in our hearts as we memorize and also allow the WOG to speak to us as we meditate on each verse at least for a few days!
For the WOG is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the tots and attitudes of the heart. WOW. Lets allow God to do His work thru His powerful Word, amen?! xD

Alex Tan Kai Hao
Posted on Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Hey brothers and sisters, this is just something I'd like to share (some of it fictional but his quotes are factual) about our brother Alex. The following is a profile essay I did about Alex.

------------------------------------

I had just gotten a seat at the couch in Starbucks and within minutes, a shadow of a figure sauntered towards me. He does not cut the figure of a guy who hits the gym regularly but rather, he possesses a 'prosperous' look because of a rather rotund figure. Dressed in a uniquely designed T-shirt by Graniph and jeans, along with a comfortable pair of sandals, his body language oozed confidence and joy. The most striking detail of his dressing had to be that pair of reflective shades that covered his eyes while revealing his smile. As he finally settled down, he made sure that I was seated comfortably. I first got to know this guy as Instructor Potato.

You might not know Alex Tan Kai Hao yet; however, the chances are likely that you would know a friend who knows of his existence. This was highlighted particularly when someone came out of the blue to offer their salutations to Alex who reciprocated by smiling back. As he would put forth his thoughts, “Chances are that you would know who I am but I might not know you yet.” He continued explaining that I would know in due course why he had made such a contradictory statement.

Alex said, “I would describe myself a someone who is out-going, always willing to make new friends. I'm also always willing to lend a listening ear to my friends. There are times, I may even treat my friends better than my family, which is something I can be guilty of.” As I continued my investigation into the source of his confidence, security and assuredness. He mentioned that he had a the gift of the gab which he felt was God-given and it had opened many different roads for him.

Speaking on that matter, he went on saying, “Regarding my 'gift', I feel that I can connect with almost anyone I meet during the first time, especially with kids. It's because I think I have the ability to bring myself to the opposite party's position and level, so as to be on the same 'frequency' as the opposite party. In this way, it really strengthens my interpersonal skills and allow me to impact others with my own life and to impart the right knowledge and values to others.” While I was curious about his recent experiences and history, he continued to share about his work. “I used to be a camp facilitator for leadership / adventure camps for kids ranging from primary school till tertiary education, and not forgetting corporate clients. I was trained to take care of kids for 3D2N or even 4D3N. I was also requited [sic] to impart important teamwork and leadership values onto them. Before that, I used to be a Motorola phone promoter, whereby I was trained to promote Motorola phones to prospective customers who want to buy them. In this way, I had a very rich knowledge about mobile phones in the industry, as it is required so as to make a comparison to other competing brands.” He continued saying, “If you can make shit and turn it into gold, you will be able to earn a hefty income from the commissions to be made.”

As we ventured deeper into the various methods of approach he would take towards different people, he went on to say, “I will firstly put myself in the person's shows[sic], so as to understand the perspective that the person is having. This way, I will be able to understand better why the person reacts like this or do certain stuff. By doing that, I will be able to use different approaches to different kinds of people. In fact, every human is born unique; thus every single person I meet requires a unique approach, which can be pretty exciting at times.”

Shifting away from the current topic, I decided to try to find out more about his interests, aspirations and personal achievements. In the end, he is no more than just the ordinary man you would see along our streets as he continued to reveal more about himself. He reminisced that, “I did not have any particular personal achievements, but I feel that the 2.5 years whereby I was a camp facilitator, which I did 40 camps for High Achievers, to me is a very remarkable achievement as I had dealt with so many different kinds of kids, and left an impression in so many lives. Through this experience, I was able to sharpen my interpersonal skills and also be more confident as a person and be more out-going.” About what he does with his leisure time, he revealed that, “I love to watch TV, play beach frisbee and listening to songs on my iPOD as well as driving (especially at night) plus collecting pin badges.” When we moved on to the topic about his ambition, he mentioned, “I want to be able to have a career that impacts lives, especially with regards to kids. In addition, I also hope to be able to drive my dream car; the BMW 3 Series Convertible.” When being asked why he wanted to pursue such a career path, he reasoned that, “It is because if the career I choose is for my own selfish gain, then it would be a meaningless career. Therefore, I would want to work in a career that will impact lives; whereby in this way, I can earn money to supplement myself and also change peoples' lives in the midst.

Alex is part of a family of four and they live in a flat located in Pasir Ris. “I have a younger sister, dad and mum. I used to be not so close to my younger sister, but now, I try to forge stronger ties with her. My parents are very loving towards me, especially my mum.” This brought to his mind the people he had always looked up to when in search of a role model. He said that, “I look up to my parents especially, as from their way of handling the family and also their frugal spending habits that allowed them to retire at an earlier age as compared to normal people. That really made me aspire to be like them, so as to be able to manage a family well and retire early to enjoy life. My ideal lifestyle would be retired (need not work), driving my dream car, enjoying quality time with my family, living in a very nice and comfy home.”

After his sharing of experiences, I was curious about the events or circumstances that shaped him into the character that he was today and if there were any life-changing moments. He continued by saying, “I think the life-changing moment was when I decided to take the step of faith to become a Christian. I feel that I have become more patient towards people and I have learned to be more loving too. I also enjoy spending time with my spiritual family a.k.a my caregroup. I had a very blessed childhood, whereby I received lots of love from my parents and I did not need to worry about wether [sic] there would be enough food or a shelter to cover my head. This motivates me to be the opportunity for people to lead a life that is loving and fulfilling too, to have the same chance to go through what I did.”

As we approached the last bit of our conversation, Alex pondered and shared that, “I don't believe in re-doing or reliving any past moment, as it is already in the past and cannot be changed. Therefore, I believe that making the right choice is very important as there may be adverse consequences if a wrong decision is made. I'm not too worried about getting a job in such times considering I'm finishing up my last semester in SIM. I believe in my own capability, and as I'm prepared to accept a lower pay in such dark times, if I do get a job, I will just work first to gain experience. It's because when the economy recovers, my pay will go up accordingly. I'm just planning to ace my last semester, and also earn extra money during my work stint at Forest Adventure which is located at Bedok Reservoir Park. As for the planned family trip to Europe during the holidays, I will just let nature take its own course.”

When asked if his confidence was derived from his appearance and what his attitude towards relationships were, he responded by saying, “I believe in dressing up well, especially when it comes to formal presentations or special events. I will specially dress up for the occasion. However, one's confidence should not be placed entirely in the security of our appearance because our appearances change and fluctuate. Rather, our confidence should be derived from having a sense of identity and self which I believe I have found. My love life is not fantastic, with only 2 girlfriends. In the past, I had the mindset that once I know a girl who appeals to me, I will just go all out and chase her and not know the right perception towards dating, however, that has changed over time.”

Finally, when given the opportunity to represent himself with a subject or object, he explained the reason behind his choice, “I would use a potato to represent me as I've been using Potato as my nickname and apparently, it works well for my previous job as a camp facilitator.”

As some of Alex's friends would mention, Shawn, his brother-in-Christ shared that, “Alex to me is a very jovial person. If I need to use a word to describe him, it would be 'Catalyst'. This is because people around him will react faster with him and foster stronger relationships and bonds with him around. Li yi, a sister-in-Christ added that, “He looks really serious but when you know him better, he's a people-oriented person who is learning to be 'whine-free' as he continues to serve. A serving brother indeed.”

Perhaps, Alex himself summarized things completely when he said, “My friends say that I'm funny, outspoken and giving. My philosophy in life is that I believe IMPOSSIBLE is made up of 'I' 'M' 'POSSIBLE'! This way, I believe that nothing is impossible in this world and if one does not try, how would one know whether it will work or not?

A lecturer in SIM, Dr Yaep, reacted to my question when I asked her if she knew Alex and she responded cheerfully saying, “Who wouldn't know Alex?

My reflections on Romans 11:29
Posted on Saturday, March 7, 2009

I think what I received from God was something very simple yet the most fundamental from the verse!

GIFTS.
Gifts are simply what God has blessed me with, they colour my life and make life worth the living.

The most wonderful gift is the Gift of Jesus. I always share with my friends that the day i walked down to receive Jesus is like walking towards a gift God has prepared-you may not know what it is yet, but you know it is the best you are going to have.

The gifts of love, joy, forgiveness, peace, life from God!

CALL
Without thinking very far off, a call need not be a big thing that you dont know about.

To me, God's call for me is simply exiting from darkness and living in the light. Living here and now on earth walking in truth, as children of God.

IRREVOCABLE
This to me, it simply means what God has given, the gifts and his call for us is something that cannot be denied, cannot be taken away, cannot be changed, cannot be forsaken. What He gives, remains with us, nothing can destroy what God has promised/given.

We may change, circumstances may change but God's Gifts and Call remains.\

Interview with Rick Warren‏
Posted on

An article worth reading. Invest your 3 minutes...............

Author of "PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE")

You will enjoy the new insights that Rick Warren has, with his wife now having cancer and him having "wealth" from the book sales. This is an absolutely incredible short interview with Rick Warren,
"Purpose Driven Life " author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness,"which is my problem, my issues, my pain." But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal wit h before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.
That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

TIPS TO STAY HEALTHY TO SERVE HIM EVEN MORE!
Posted on Wednesday, March 4, 2009

1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER: It is an old favourite but don’t underestimate the power of eight glasses of water a day. It flushes out the toxins in your body, helping to keep weight down and combat cellulite.

It also keeps your skin and hair wonderfully hydrated, beating dry patches and a sallow complexion. And most importantly it is free.

Fill a bottle with water and keep it with you throughout the day. Finish it before lunch, fill it again and then make sure you drink the rest before you go to bed.

2. GET EIGHT HOURS SLEEP EACH NIGHT: While we all make jokes about getting enough beauty sleep there is truth in the restorative powers of rest.

You need to give your body and your skin time to repair itself each day to keep it in tip-top condition. Getting sufficient shut-eye gets rid of those dark bags and scratchy red eyes. You’ll wake up refreshed and revitalised.

3. EAT LOTS OF FRUIT AND VEG: Pile up your plate with loads of fruit, vegetables and salad.

Getting your five-a-day will not only protect you against illness but it’ll help clear up cellulite, boost your complexion and you will see the weight drop off.

4. SMILE: A big smile is the cheapest and the best way to look beautiful. It gives you confidence and makes you appear happy, friendly and approachable.

A grin also uses fewer facial muscles than a frown so will leave you less wrinkled.

If smiling more is going to be your resolution then make sure your teeth are in the best condition by regularly visiting the dentist and hygienist to keep those pearlies white.

NTU’s final year engineering student stabs professor
Posted on

SINGAPORE: A Nanyang Technological University (NTU) spokesman had confirmed that a final year student from the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering stabbed a professor Monday morning.

The professor at the engineering faculty was in his office when the student stabbed him with a knife in the back.

Prof Chan Kap Luk, a Singaporean in his 40s, is said to be the supervisor of the fourth year student in a project.

After stabbing the professor, the male student — who was in his 20s — slit his wrists and jumped down a building at the engineering block.

His body was found at the bottom of the building, which was about five storeys high. He died from his injuries.

Prof Chan received medical treatment for cuts and is in stable condition.

NTU said both parties’ next—of—kin had been notified.

NTU’s president, Su Guaning, rallied the university community together and pledged to help the families of the professor and student.

He said the matter will be investigated thoroughly. The university has mobilised its counselling professionals to help.

Dr Su said: "The university is deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened... The university community will rally together at this difficult time and do our utmost to help the student’s family, the professor and his family, and those traumatised by the incident."

Kate and Owen are trying for a baby
Posted on

THEIR relationship has had more twists and turns than any movie either have starred in – but KATE HUDSON and OWEN WILSON are firmly back together and planning to start a family.

After going public with their renewed romance in Paris earlier this week, the pair are ready to take the relationship to the next level.

Owen tried to kill himself after they split in 2007, but has now put his troubles firmly behind him and is ready to settle down.

A pal of the Wedding Crashers actor said: “Kate and Owen initially got back together three months ago after realising they couldn't live without each other. Now they are ready to become parents.

“Kate has been desperate for a brother or sister for RYDER - her first child with ex-husband CHRIS ROBINSON - for some time.

“It was a stumbling block previously with Owen. He's always had a difficult time committing, but this time it's different.

“Kate was with him throughout his recovery and that made Owen realise how much he loves her.

“They've discussed the idea of becoming parents at length and Kate has seen a change in Owen.

“He is now is truly committed and is showing a new-found maturity.

“He loves the idea of being a dad and has told Kate that he's ready when she is, but the sooner, the better!”

The source added: "Kate is over the moon and really wants to start a family with Owen now she feels that he has finally grown up.

"The fact that he is ready to make that commitment to her has given her faith in the relationship.

"Kate's family are all really behind the relationship as well after seeing how Owen has turned it around.

“Everyone is now confident the relationship will work out long-term and they will be together forever.”

“Being God's Best”

Looking at :1 Timothy 4:12,15-16
*Romans 7:19-20

God is not giving us a standard we cannot attain
Know the difference between Grace and Leniency
Grace: By sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us
Leniency: God forgive us even when we didn’t meet the mark
God shown us grace, how should we respond to such grace?
1Corinthians 15:10, 2 Corinthians 5:21,6:1
If we truly understand the word grace, are we living our lives according to it?
*Hebrews 10:27

1) Be diligent (v15a)
“Be diligent in these matters”
*Phillippians 2:12-13
Diligence in cultivating your heart
“Diligence is the mother of good luck”-Benjamin Franklin

2) Be wholehearted (v15b)
“give yourself wholly to them”
Lead a holy life wholeheartedly

3) Be consistent (v16a)
“Watch your life and doctrine closely”
Do you know your doctrine? Or are you ignorant?
Hard work is required to store God’s words in our hearts
Being spiritual don’t come by chance!

4) Be persevering (v16b)
“Persevere in them”

Title: “The experiences of a credible leader”
Speaker: Joshua Ng
Date: 31st January '09

8We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. 9Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our[a] behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
[2 Corinthians 1:8-11]

1) They can be profound [v8-9a]
-Even the apostle Paul encountered so much pressure and difficulties, which in itself are profound to understand.
-Experiences on a personal, leading or sharing level are part and parcel of the process of moulding and growth.
[Matthew 13:11-12]

-God wants to mould, bless, mature and nurture you.
-God will prune you to be even more fruitful!
-There is a deeper purpose behind the experiences that are divinely allowed.
-We will go forth to serve if the WOG is alive in us.

I. Do you live in a paradigm of simplicity? (outlook towards life)

Please read the following:
[Proverbs 1:22], [Proverbs 1:32], [Proverbs 14:15], [Proverbs 22:3], [Hosea 4:6]

-If one goes through life without making sense of it profound nature, we will not notice what God is doing.
-A complicated outlook; one thinks a lot, but does little.
-Steer your life have a balanced outlook.
-The solution to profound experiences is to go understand and make sense!

Qn: Are we going through life with God, or just ourselves?

2) Experiences of a credible leader have a divine purpose
-There are no accidents in your life! [2 Corinthians 1:9b-10]
-You reap what you sow [Cause and Effect]
-When one has true faith in God, the purpose will be revealed.

Please read the following: [Mark 1:40-42], [Hebrews 11:1], [Hebrews 11:6]

3) They can be shared by the people [v11]
-They are meant to be shared by the community

-As we continue to talk to Him, He will will speak to us as we pray (2-way)
-He will guide you and teach you the right thing
-As we pray, our hearts will change, our motives will purify.
-It is our privilege to serve God! (serve with humility)
He must become greater; I must become less
[John 3:30]

Speaker: Pastor Jeff Chong

11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.
[Psalm 77:11-12]

“We don't know what holds for us tomorrow, what we do know is who holds our tomorrow”

1) God has promised to guide me
[Psalm 33:8]

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6in all ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
[Proverbs 3:5-6]

God wants to guide you, more than you want Him to guide you.
Eg. Hard heart and therefore we refuse to listen.
A surrendered heart says, “God will lead, but we MUST follow”

2) God has prescribed His ways for me
7Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep
[John 10:7]

I. Through the word of God
[2 Timothy 3:16-17]
[Proverbs 20:23]

II. Through the Spirit of God
-Logos and Rhema [Act 16:6-7]
Therefore, what you hear or sense has to be measured with the Word of God

III. Through the counsel of Godly people
22Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
[Proverbs 15:22]

3) God has purposed to glorify His name
-As we flow in accordance to His purpose, we WILL glorify Him
[Psalm 73:24]

"Parable of the Soil"

Matthew 13:1-23
Speaker: Joshua Ng
Tertiary Service: 27th December 2008, Saturday

Matthew 13
The Parable of the Sower
1That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9He who has ears, let him hear."
10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
" 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.'[a] 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
18"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. 23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Luke 12:13-21 (New International Version)

The Parable of the Rich Fool

13Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
14Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" 15Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '
20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'
21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

Speaker: Pastor Jeff Chong
Tertiary Service: 13th December 2008, Saturday

1 John 4:7-12 (New International Version)

God's Love and Ours

7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son[a] into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for[b] our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

1. Love is The Very Essence of God (v7 –8)

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Colossians 3:14 1 John 3:18 Romans 5:8

2. Love Find Its Highest Expression in Jesus (v9-12)

"The Forgiving Heart of God"

Matthew 18:21-35
Speaker: Pastor Jeff
Tertiary Service: 29 November 2008, Saturday

Matthew 18:21-35 (New International Version)

21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"
22Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[a]
23"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents[b] was brought to him. 25Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
26"The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28"But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii.[c] He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded.
29"His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'
30"But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.
32"Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35"This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

17 Pharaoh said, "Lazy, that's what you are—lazy! That is why you keep saying, 'Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.' 18 Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks."
19 The Israelite foremen realized they were in trouble when they were told, "You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day." 20 When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them, 21 and they said, "May the LORD look upon you and judge you! Introduction:

Risk-taking stage is a stage when people in the church take more risk. And it will have more dynamics as well.

Care-taking stage is when more people start to join the group. As we’re happy about the salvation of many, we do our best to keep all of them in the family.

Under-taking stage starts when people are always talking about the good-old-days in the past.

Therefore for the tertiary, we’re still between the risk-taking and care-taking stage.

God choose people to fulfil the promises that we have given to us!

1. God’s call can come anytime and everywhere (v1-3)

1 Sam 3:3-4, Isa 6:8-9, Mat 4:18-19, Mat 9:9

After referring to the above verses, the common thing that we see from all of them is that as business goes on as usual, God calls.

Matthew was working as a tax collector, stting at the table waiting for payments. God came and asked him to follow. Matthew stood up, leave everything behind and just leave with Jesus.

Be spiritually curious and sensitive. This is how we can recognize that God is calling us!

John 3:2

2. God’s call is personal (v4)

God calls us by name. Just like how He called Moses and Samuel when He came before them to anoint them.

There’s nothing that happen to us can be considered as incidents whether is it good or bad. Psa139:15-16

We’re living in what God has in plan for us now.

If we trust God and love people, we’re save!

If we trust people and love God, then we’re in trouble!

(if u’re confused, it simply means trust is very crucial! We can trust and love but we can love yet not trust.)

no one can replace us!

If God has called you, Let’s be on board to contribute to KOG!

3. God’s call has a clear purpose (v5-10>

a) To be His own (v5-6)

God ask Moses to take off his shoes in v5 not because the ground is holy. It is because God is at that place. Wherever God is, it makes that place Holy.

Exo 30:37-38, 1 Pet 2:9

We’re chosen, let’s set ourselves apart!

b) To fulfil His plan (v7-10)

John 10:10b(NLT) “……My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

Bring Hope to the hopeless.

We need to get out of our comfort zones and help others.

Why am I doing what I am doing?

Haggai 2:10-19

Haggai 2:10-19 (New International Version)

Blessings for a Defiled People

10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Haggai: 11 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Ask the priests what the law says: 12 If a person carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, oil or other food, does it become consecrated?' "
The priests answered, "No."
13 Then Haggai said, "If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?"
"Yes," the priests replied, "it becomes defiled."
14 Then Haggai said, " 'So it is with this people and this nation in my sight,' declares the LORD. 'Whatever they do and whatever they offer there is defiled.
15 " 'Now give careful thought to this from this day on [a] —consider how things were before one stone was laid on another in the LORD's temple. 16 When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty. 17 I struck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not turn to me,' declares the LORD. 18 'From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid. Give careful thought: 19 Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit.
" 'From this day on I will bless you.' "

Haggai 2:1-9 (New International Version)

The Promised Glory of the New House

1 On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: 2 "Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people. Ask them, 3 'Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? 4 But now be strong, O Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty. 5 'This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.'
6 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. 7 I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty. 8 'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD Almighty. 9 'The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace,' declares the LORD Almighty."

"The Right Attitude Towards God's priority"

Haggai 1:12-15
Speaker: Joshua Ng
Tertiary Service: 11th October 2008, Saturday

Haggai 1:12-15 (New International Version)

12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD.

13 Then Haggai, the LORD's messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: "I am with you," declares the LORD. 14 So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD Almighty, their God, 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius.

Haggai 1:1-11 (New International Version)

A call to Build the House of the LORD

1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua [a] son of Jehozadak, the high priest:
2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "These people say, 'The time has not yet come for the LORD's house to be built.' "
3 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: 4 "Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?"
5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD. 9 "You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house. 10 Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. 11 I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands."

"How to Have A Miracle"

Matthew 13:53-58
Speaker: Leanne Huang and Jasmine Poon
Tertiary Service: 27th September 2008, Saturday

Matthew 13:53-58 (New International Version)

53When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. 54Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?" they asked. 55"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."
58And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
